We’re BLOOMING…
Have you seen the news? If you’re active on our social media, you would have seen that on February 21 – one month before the 2024 Spring Equinox – Isola Herbals as we had all grown to know went through a BIG and BEAUTIFUL change. We shed the last TEN YEARS of instagram posts, and we are blooming into the sturdy, strong blossom that the foundation of our brand has allowed us to be. What does this mean? Well, for starters, a little clarity on Isola Herbals: My name is Em, and I started Isola Herbals as a way to share what I was learning on my path to becoming…

Welcome to the Heart of Isola…The Summer Solstice
In an instant—Summer appears… These days – for me anyway – its difficult to understand the world. But it’s not that difficult to understand Mademoiselle Universe. She’s a very consistent entity, and thank goodness for that! Like every aspect of the nature of the Universe, we grow a little, face challenges, grow a little more, face some more challenges, and grow a little more. Each season that passes offers us the opportunity to either rest, as in fall and winter, or to be more active, more social, more lively, as in spring and summer. At Isola, the seasons really feel like they begin and end with the Summer Solstice, a day…

03: March: We’re Having A Garden Party!
Welcome to a cold and snow-filled March in Alberta! As a country girl raised in the mountains, I know that the wild plants and animals, the farmers, and my own horses really need the moisture that spring snowfalls bring, but the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence… I would prefer rain! I’ve already started my greenhouse and garden planning for 2023, and while the greenhouse is in its first stages of life this year, I’d like to invite you to join me for the very first Isola Herbals Garden Party! On Sunday, April 2, 2023, join me via zoom at 11AM MST in my greenhouse…

Lilacs in July
Garden Season I’m certain that I’m not the only Western Canadian resident who’s been questioning the seasons of spring and summer in 2022, as we seem to have not seen either of them and its already July. Just a month ago my husband and I took a long-overdue dream trip to France and Spain, where we left a blustery Canada and entered into a European springtime full of greenery and bright summer florals. We returned home with expectations of feelings of guilt for our lack of garden and landscaping chores, only to be relieved that it wasn’t actually springtime yet here (in mid-June!?). Now I sit in my greenhouse with…

Summer 2021: Sharing My Summertime Essentials!
I love reading newsletters from my favourite bloggers, YouTubers, ballerinas and fitness community leaders, so I thought as a change to my Isola blog, I’d share some of my summertime skincare essentials! Summertime Skincare Favorites! I always love to sample a few different suncare products! Our skin changes all the time, so we may need a different product this year than what we’ve used previously. Also, suncare products have come a long way in the last few years, so be sure to purchase one with a coral reef protection stamp on it! Here are a few of my favourite skincare and bodycare products that help me feel hydrated, glowing and…

Champagne Sunday: Pre-Summer At Isola!
When I first started this blog portion of my online Isola Herbals store, I committed to writing Fountain of Youth Friday posts, all about what I had been learning about the youthful habits of people all over the world, and I wrote Champagne Sunday posts, about lifestyle, travel, cocktails, pescatarian recipes and other fun things I had wanted to share with you all. Its been a wild few years here at my beautiful Isola property in the prairies of Alberta, with being a newlywed, my husband moving in, and some pretty big renovations to the property. I’m very fortunate that these renovations included my incredible greenhouse, built using century-old farmhouse…

The Springtime Season of Skincare
Each season, our bodies adjust to the changes in the air, the earth and the corresponding elements. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, (TCM) springtime is the season where we must nourish the liver, so that it may balance our ‘heat’, or ‘fire’ as our bodies adjust from the cold of the winter. What this means for our skin is that we may experience an excessive, or new ‘heat’ in our complexion. This can present itself as redness, dryness, excessive oil or a combination or variation of these symptoms, and this needs to be corrected through managing the food we eat, the liquids that we drink, and supporting the seasonal change using…
