Welcome to Isola Equine Herbalist Services and Herbal Remedies! As a horse-lover and horse owner for over 30 years, I have dedicated my life to the happiness, health and longevity of my beloved beasties. Through my education and experience working as a large animal veterinary technician, and through nine years (and counting!) of education as a Clinical Herbalist, Iridologist, and student of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine, I have been able to grow and practice as an Herbalist specifically addressing the common (and sometimes not-so-common) discomforts and dis-eases that can affect horses. I am currently completing my Master Herbalist diploma.

I am the proud best friend of two beautiful Arabian geldings. Tobi, my sweet, reliable boy has been with me since he was three years old. He is turning 22 years old in May of 2023! He was badly abused as a baby, hobbled and left in a field for who knows how long. He’s a beautiful registered Paint Arabian, and when I say that we are best friends, I mean that we have been through so much together as I was barely 20 years old when he first came into my life! We have an incredible communication together, where no halter or rope, nor a saddle is ever needed anymore. Him and I have been enjoying rides and long walks together at liberty for over 15 years.

My newest little man is named Aksel! If you follow my social media @IsolaHerbals , you’ll know Aksel well! He came to me from pure fate as a yearling after the loss of my king, a Standardbred Arabian named The Great Gatzby, or ‘G’, as I called him. When G died as a teenager at 19 years old, Tobi and I were fulfilled by each others company, but still we had room for another special soul. Into our lives came baby Aksel, like a little spikey sunrise! He is an absolute supermodel of a pure-bred Arabian, with a champion Sire and a notably bred dame (if you know Arabians, Aksel is from Morning Sun Arabians).

Aksel will be three years old already this June, and while Tobi has been his ‘trainer’ in a big-brother sense, he is such an intelligent little boy that we have already surpassed so many natural horsemanship training levels!

In sharing a little bit about my boys, their food and activity regime is strongly based on the seasons and herbalism where needed. Senior horses and young horses often have similar dietary and exercise needs. For my two horses, a combination of sea kelp, spirulina, and herbal blends to cater to each of their growth and tissue state strengths and weaknesses are a part of their daily dietary regime. Both of them absolutely love lymphatic massages and stretches, and the three of us often go for a run together! This is not only great fun for us, but it’s excellent training for transitions, and it’s an important way for me to measure their respiratory health and overall wellness (and my own!).

There are many ways that we can address equine issues, and more often than not, many issues can be addressed with simple remedies including herbs, lifestyle, and small dietary alterations.

Isola Equine Herbalism and Iridology Consultation: What to expect

At an Equine Herbalism consultation, you can expect me to meet your horse, ideally at liberty (no halter), where I will do a thorough external review of their body, examining their coat, their skin, their legs and hooves, their mane and tail, their ears and nose, and review their irises for an iridology mapping. If needed, I may push some acupressure points to confirm areas of tissue strength and weakness. I may ask to walk with the horse, and see their feed and water quality. I’ll then give you a review of what I believe that the horses areas of improvement could be, and we will review their alignment with your concerns for your horse. From there, if needed, I will make recommendations for your horses diet and lifestyle, and I may offer an Isola Equine herbal blend to be added to their feed.

I am happy to work closely with your veterinarian, and/or refer you to a veterinarian who I work with to ensure that your horse is receiving the best treatment options, and the best combinations of natural medicine and pharmaceutical grade medications. Ensuring that there are no contraindications between the herbs that I recommend, and any pharmaceuticals is an important area of my studies, and I am well-versed in herb-drug interactions for the safety of horses (and their humans).
